INSTRUCTIONS
A 3 coloured shell of stripes that widen by 2 rows after each pattern repeat. The armholes are finished with ecru I-cord and the bottom is finished with one strand of ecru I-cord and one strand of lime I-cord Yarn Used: Patons Bella Aran (131 yds per 50g) 6 balls (2 of each colour). Used ecru, damson and lime Gauge: 5sts/inch 8rows/inch Needle size: 4.5mm (for body); 5mm circular (for neck) Finished bust size: 30 inches Stocking stitch is used on the body, the neck is knitted on circular needles. BACK CO 76st in ecru. *Switch to damson and st.st 6 rows 1 row ecru 6 rows lime* 1 row ecru Repeat from * to * once 3 rows ecru *8 rows damson 3 rows ecru 8 rows lime* 3 rows ecru Repeat from * to * once Continue increasing the stripe height by 2 rows after each pattern repeat. When Back reaches 13.5 inches (or desired length) begin shaping for the armholes. Armhole Shaping Cast(Bind) Off 2 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease Row Decrease on the next 6 right side rows by: K1, S1, K1, psso knit to last 3 sts K2tog, K1 THEN * work 3 rows without decreasing followed by another Decrease Row* Repeat from * to * once. You should now have 56 sts Work straight until armhole reaches 8 inches (or desired length). Shoulder Shaping Cast Off 5 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows then Cast Off 4 sts at the beginning of next row then K until there are 8 sts on the right hand needle and turn, leaving the remaining sts on a spare needle Work each side of the neck separately Cast Off 4 sts at beg of next row work to end Cast Off remaining stitches. With right side facing, rejoin yarn to remaining sts, cast off centre 22 sts K to end. Work to match first side, reversing shapings. FRONT Work as for back until 6 rows less have been worked before the Shoulder Shaping. K19 turn (leaving the remaining sts on a spare needle) Work each side of neck separatley Dec 1st at neck edge every alt row 3 times. THEN Work shoulder shaping as for back AT THE SAME TIME work the neck edge straight for 3 rows then dec 4sts on the neck edge. Rejoin yarn to stitches on spare needle. Cast Off 18 sts K to end. Work to match the other side reversing shapings. MAKING UP Join both shoulder seams. Neckband With 5mm circular needle and right side facing pick-up and knit 64 sts. Knit for 2 rounds in the same colour you ended the body in. Purl 1 round<>br> Switch to ecru then Purl 8 rounds. Cast off loosely and slip stitch cast-off band to the wrong side of the pick up row. Armhole Borders Knit a 4 st I-cord long enough to go around the armhole edge and slip stitch into place. Bottom Band Knit one 4 st I-cord in ecru and one 4st I-cord in lime. Slip-stich ecru cord to the bottom of the shell and then slip-stich the lime cord to the ecru cord. Lightly press the finished shell. FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. |
